Not the malls. The things.

Every city has a shopping street. What travellers remember is the thing they found: espadrilles made by hand since 1940, a candle from the original shop, a tin of tea from a tea house that opened in 1854.

Shopover guides are built around those things. For each one you get what it is, who makes it, which door to open, and what it costs, on average, against what you would pay at Home. Chosen for travellers from abroad, not for tour groups.

03Point & know

Point at a tag. Know in a second.

See something you like? Open the camera and point it at the price tag. Shopover reads the tag, finds the product, and puts the price you would pay at Home beside it, with the refund taken off and anything due at the border added on. No googling in the shop doorway.

  1. Point. Open the camera in the app and point it at a price tag or a barcode.
  2. Compare. Shopover finds the product and puts the Home price right beside it.
  3. Decide. The tax refund comes off and anything due at the border goes on, so you see one real price.
Shown with sample products. In the prototype the camera works from the barcode and the printed tag.

04Compare

Type it. Compare it.

Not near a tag? Type the product. Shopover shows what it costs in each guide city next to the price at Home, with the refund taken off and any border charge added on.

Two hands comparing prices on a phone at a cafe tableWhich looks cheaper in the shop is not always cheaper at the till: tax refunds, border charges and exchange rates all move the real price. That is the number Shopover shows.
Official list prices checked 8 October 2026. Shops differ, so on average expect these figures, not exactly these.
05What we compare

Eleven kinds of things worth checking.

The same product costs different amounts in different countries, and the gap depends on what it is. Shopover starts with the categories where a travellers' price check actually pays off.

06Refunds & allowances

Know what it really costs.

Depending on where you live, you can claim VAT back when you leave a country, and bring a set amount home tax-free. The rules differ by Home and by destination, and some countries tax everything once you pass the limit. Shopover knows them and does the sums.

  1. Ask at the till. Tell the shop you want the tax-free form. Carry your passport; you will need to show where you live.
  2. Validate at the airport. Before you check in, scan the form at the refund kiosk. Keep the goods in your hand luggage in case they ask to see them.
  3. Get paid. The refund goes to your card or comes as cash, after the operator's fee. On average that is about 11 to 12% of the price.

One bag, worked through.

The shelf price is only the start. Take the refund off, add whatever is due when you get Home, and compare with what the same thing costs there.

Uses list prices checked 8 October 2026 and typical refund rates after operator fees.

09How we work

Good finds. No nasty surprises.

Checked, with a date.

Every product, price and shop carries the date it was last checked. If we are not sure, we say so.

Facts, not verdicts.

Shopover shows the numbers and you decide. Nothing is sponsored unless it says so.

Your Home, your rules.

Refunds and allowances depend on where you live, not on your passport. Set Home once and every price is worked out for you.
